Che cos’è Reiki?

A modern energy-balancing practice developed in early-20th-century Japan in which a practitioner places hands on or above a recipient's body to support relaxation and a sense of well-being.

Storia e contesto culturale

Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922, drawing on his study of Buddhist practices, Japanese energy traditions, and his own meditative experiences. The practice was carried to Hawaii in 1937 by Hawayo Takata and from there to the rest of the world; today it is taught and practiced in many lineages across Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, and beyond. Reiki is widely offered alongside conventional care in some hospitals and hospices as a complementary relaxation modality.

Come funziona

A session typically lasts 30-60 minutes, with the recipient resting fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner places hands lightly on or just above a sequence of positions on the body. Recipients often describe sensations of warmth, calm, or a quiet mind. Reiki is offered as a relaxation and wellness practice; it is not a substitute for medical or mental-health treatment, and reputable practitioners will say so explicitly.
