A TCM practitioner takes a detailed case history and conducts a tongue-and-pulse examination — both considered diagnostic windows into the state of the body's organ systems and the flow of qi (vital force). They identify a pattern of disharmony (e.g. qi stagnation, kidney yin deficiency) and select a treatment approach accordingly, which may include acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, or a tailored herbal formula.
