A divinatory and writing system rooted in the Old Germanic and Norse traditions, using carved symbols (the Elder Futhark and its successors) drawn from a pouch to reflect on questions and life situations.
Runic alphabets were used across Northern Europe from roughly the 2nd century CE for writing, memorial inscriptions, and protective charms. The Elder Futhark (24 runes) is the oldest known set; later regional variants include the Younger Futhark and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc. Modern divinatory use draws on the practice of runatal described in the Old Norse poem Havamál, and was revived in the 20th century alongside broader interest in Norse heritage and Heathen spiritual paths.
The seeker holds a question in mind and draws one or more runes from a pouch — common spreads include a single rune for the day, three runes for an unfolding situation, or a five-rune cross for deeper reflection. Each rune carries traditional meanings tied to natural forces, qualities, and old Germanic concepts (e.g. Fehu — wealth and movable resources; Ansuz — communication and breath). The reader works with the seeker to relate the drawn runes back to the question, treating the reading as a contemplative tool rather than a literal forecast.
